  1. Re Bakerloo's gig list, I notice there is a bit of a mix up with two venues. Henry's Blues House was held in a room upstairs at the Crown Pub in Navigation St, Birmingham. There was another venue called the Crown in Brownhills (not Downhills!) which is a few miles outside Brum. Some of the entries are an amalgamation of the two!!

  2. Thanks Anonymous! However, after other research, I find that The Crown pub was (and still is) located on the corners of Hill Street and Station Street (not Navigation Street) in the centre of Birmingham. By the way, I delete the wrong "Brownhills" part, thanks

  4. Bruno: According to rock journo Chris Welch, Clem played at least one gig in late October or early November 1969 (in Nottingham, I think) with Dave Pegg (b) and Cozy Powell (d) as "Bakerloo." I'm not sure it went beyond that one gig and a few rehearsals, as Clem joined Colosseum not too long after that. And good to see you included the group that was put together (by Jim Simpson?) to fulfill some contractual dates -- after all, the album had JUST come out on Harvest, and there was no group to promote it! I wish I could find footage of that late '69-early'70 "Bakerloo" TV appearance in Germany ...

    1. I have a VCD from Suddeutscher Rundfunk of part of the televised show which we did for a program run by Werner Schretzmeier. It shows an interview where I speak in German. (In those days my German wasn't too good bit I did become fluent later!!) Additionally there's a track which I don't even remember playing that's very much in a Free Jazz vein. We spent a whole day from early morning to late evening at the TV studios and recorded a number of the tunes that appear later on the Hannibal album on Chrysalis. When I became 50 I approached Suddeutscher Rundfunk to see if they had any of the tapes for these sessions and they could only find the VCD as detailed earlier. This was disappointing for me as I believed the other material was b etter and believe it was all aired on Werner's program over a few weeks. Based on these transmissions we were apparently voted "Underground Group" of the year by viewers!I've still got to get the VCD converted to DVD and I'll be 69 in a couple of months! (Actually I worked with Werner later on that year helping to translate interviews with rock bands and convert them to German subtitles).
The tour poster for this German tour showed the cover of the Bakerloo Blues Line album but had the "new" Bakerloo. It also had the comment in German: "Bakerloo geht jetzt erweitert" which translates as Bakerloo is now continuing (or could be "expanded") to make clear that this was a new version of the band. We were of course no longer the Blues group of before but much more jazzy and perhaps influenced by the likes of Frank Zappa. I'm happy to hear from anyone interested in more.

  6. Ref. to "unknown venue, unknown city, Germany":on Wednesday, May 6th 1970 had a gig in Neumünster (north of Hamburg), as far as I remember in was in a Jazz Club/Pub called "Stadt Rendsburg", entrance fee was 4 German Marks (advance booking), 4 Marks 50 at the box office. I was very impressed, that's why I kept the ticket. Venue called "London Blues".

  8. The two entries for 16th January '69 - The Factory was actually next door to the Opposite Lock in Gas Street and run by the same people, interesting that it shows they 'cancelled' at the Lock but were on at the Factory.
I actually saw them play a number of times in Brum, one of the gigs was at the Factory (I can't remember the date though!)

  10. Re Bakerloo #9: We did a full tour of Germany in May 1970. This included the Blow Up club in Munich as I recall it was named where we supported Black Sabbath. We also played a gig supporting Free. The Flensburg gig was when we played a couple of dates at a club in Kiel. Before playing Kiel we played Hamburg at a place called Gruenspann. It was in an area right next to the infamous Reeperbahn, Hamburg's Red Light District. The club may still be open but there's an article about it on Wikipedia. We also played a club in the old university city of Goettingen. I left Bakerloo before the name change to live and play in Germany for a while. The song credits on the Hannibal album are incorrect. "Winter" was written by me and Jim Hickman who played bass with me in State Express and Little Acre and also with Robert Plant's Honey Drippers. Other titles credited to Adrian Ingram were either worked on with me or with Bill Hunt. But as I was away in Germany and then Ireland I knew nothing about the album until years later.I have a copy of the Hannibal album which is apparently quite rare. I'd be happy to share mp3s of the tracks if anyone is interested.

    1. I remember having seen a band called Bakerloo in my hometown Kiel at a club called Spektrum. A track from the Bakerloo album was often played there by the disc jockey so I expected that band but I did not recognize any of the musicians onstage.
