  1. The Hinckley venue for the December 18, 1965 gig was the St George Hotel ballroom. At the end of the show Brian Auger flipped most of the keys off the organ, so presumably it was not his usual instrument, but a poor one borrowed for the night!

  2. The Cheltenham venue would have been the Blue Moon club in High Street.

  4. Hi my name is John Maskell. With reference to the Edmonton gigs 5th August 1965 and 6th September 1965. You may like to know these would almost certainly have been the Cooks Ferry Inn. At that time I sang with a local band from Tottenham called Group 004 + 1 and we supported the Steam Package on one of these gigs. Unfortunately I do not have the accurate date of which gig it was.

Hope this is of use as I am finding information about the music scene in the early sixties for this area very scarce.

    Kind Regards

    John

  10. The 6th August 1965 gig was at the Ricky Tick Club, Plaza, Guildford, Surrey - not the Civic Hall Art School Dance.
I have a Ricky Tick flyer advertising the gig and my friend kept a list of who we saw at various clubs in those days which verifies it.

  12. Hi Bruno,
At least one (probably all) the Ipswich appearances were at "The Manor Ballroom" - you show dates Aug 23 '65, Nov 8 '65, Dec 27 '65 and Feb 21 '66.
Steam Packet were "regulars" and I managed one...
Now to a mystery: memory says Ginger Baker was on drums and played an incredible 15+ minutes solo set. Not sure how that fits in....
    Regards,
    Ali D-C.

Ginger Baker was on drums with Steam Packet? really? possibile, maybe he sat-in as guest, who knows, there are many mystery in rock and roll history!

    2. Not sure which date it was but I am sure Ginger Baker was on drums with Brian Augur Trinity and The Steam Packet at their performance at The Manor Lounge, Stockport in 1965.Used to go to Bamford Arms for a pint before going to the gigs there. I was an aspiring drummer myself. John Harrison.

  13. I'm pretty sure the 25 January 1966 gig was at the Club Agogo in Newcastle. I distinctly remember Rod Stewart saying he was celebrating Burns Night.

  15. Hi Bruno,
I contacted you in 2013 with details of a gig at the cooks ferry inn. This information was given to me by one of the members of the group but I have since found out that was not correct.
I have recently discovered my old diary that I used to list the gig's we played at and the correct date was much earlier that I previously gave you. The date was Sunday the 15th March 1964 and the Steam Package line up was as follows: Long John Baldry, Brian Auger Trinity, Julie Driscoll and Rod Stuart, who I believe was only 15 years old at the time. My band Group 004 + 1 were the support act. Sorry for the earlier miss info.
    Regards John Maskell

    1. Hey John,

About the date, well 15 March 1964 was incorrect at least because Steam Packet were formed a year later in July 1965 so it was impossible your band supported them on that date....maybe in the other two dates from 1965? Let me know and please feel free to contact him via email at brunodoors@libero.it

      Cheers,
      Bruno

  16. Also John are you sure we speak about Steam Packet? because maybe the 1964 gig was of Long John Baldry and The Hoochie Coochie Men, the band Baldry and Stewart had before the Steam Packet (but without the Brian Auger Trinity)

  20. wow, Ginger Baker with the Steam Packet! You are not the first who remember him with the band, so I guess he really sat-in with them once or twice, hope to find some proof oneday!

  21. Hi Bruno,

I am still trying to find advert confirmation for the gig my band Group 004 + 1 supported The Steampacket on Sunday the 15th March 1964. Other sources confirm that although Long John Baldry was appearing with The Hoochie Coochie men in 1964 he also did other gigs with Brian Auger trinity, Julie Driscoll, Rod Stewart and Mickey Waller as The Steampacket.
If and when I am successful finding an ad I will send you a copy.
    Regards

    John Maskell

  23. Hi, Steampacket also did a show in Accrington, Lancashire at a club called The Cavern. Well before my time, but if you go onto a Facebook group 'Ye Olde Accrington' and type in Cavern or the band's name, the thread will appear. CP

  24. I've been reading a (Google) translation of Jean-Michel Jarre's autobiography. In it he describes how, in the summer of '66, he was a jobbing teenager working in Saint-Tropez and ended up playing with Julie Driscoll to fill in for a guitarist who died of an overdose. He mentions the Papagayo club.

I see the residency listed here, but nothing on session musicians or incidents. Do you have any idea what he is talking about? Thanks
